Haaland is having an explosive World Cup, scoring 7 goals in 4 matches, including a brace that led Norway to a 2-1 victory over Brazil in the round of 16. Their next challenge is England, a team ranked 15 places above them in the FIFA standings.

During an interview on 9/7, when asked if all the pressure was on England, Haaland responded simply, "Yes." When questioned if Norway could capitalize on that, the Manchester City striker added, "Definitely."
Last year, Haaland stated that Norway had only a 0,5% chance of winning the World Cup 2026. Despite the Scandinavian team's surprising run, he believes their prospects have not changed much. "I still think the chances are very low. There are some strong contenders, and England is one of them. Therefore, everyone should put all the pressure on the English players", the 25-year-old forward said.
Haaland smiled as he spoke, even when asked if English fans should be humble before the match. This remark echoed a notable comment the Norwegian striker made to coach Mikel Arteta after a draw between Manchester City and Arsenal in September 2024. "I think everyone should be humble, but England certainly has the right to be confident they will advance", he stated.
During Norway's training session in Fort Lauderdale on 9/7, Haaland maintained a relaxed demeanor, joking that Americans are quite humorous. The 25-year-old forward also admitted that both he and the team have exceeded expectations at the World Cup 2026. According to the striker, born in 2000, defeating Brazil and now preparing to face England in the United States is a special experience for Norwegian football.
"Before the first match, I didn't think this would happen, and even now, I'm surprised", Haaland shared. "Reaching the World Cup quarter-finals with Norway has even surprised me. Playing Brazil was already special for Norwegians, but beating them and then facing England in the quarter-finals makes it even more meaningful. If you look at the atmosphere in Norway, people will see this is not normal for us".
Haaland was born in Leeds while his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, played for Leeds United. Haaland could have represented England but chose Norway. Therefore, today's match at Hard Rock, Miami holds a unique significance for the striker.
"It's definitely a very special match. I play in England, was born in England, and will face many club teammates. It doesn't feel strange, but it's very exciting", he shared, adding that the entire team is enjoying every moment of the World Cup.

Meanwhile, England defender Nico O'Reilly suggested Haaland's statements were merely mind games ahead of the match. O'Reilly, a teammate of Haaland at Manchester City, knows the striker well. However, the 21-year-old defender stressed that while Haaland is dangerous, England cannot focus solely on one individual.
"It's a battle of wits before the game. But Norway is also a strong team, and they have proven that throughout the tournament. We need to be wary of more than just a few players", O'Reilly stated. "Everyone knows what kind of player Erling is. He is very dangerous and a significant threat. However, they first need to get the ball to Haaland's feet. If we can limit Haaland, we will have a great chance to win".
