On 2/9, Bryne FK announced the departure of three players—Axel Kryger, Jens Husebo, and Robert Undheim—without providing a clear reason. The club's statement simply read, "We have agreed to terminate the contracts with Axel Kryger, Jens Husebo and Robert Undheim. We thank them for their dedication and wish them continued success,".
Upon hearing the news, Haaland, the Man City star, expressed his anger on Snapchat that night, writing, "Speak up, Bryne FK. What the heck is going on?",

When a follower asked if he should be sleeping, Haaland replied, "Yes, I should be sleeping, but there's chaos at my hometown club and it's making me angry. I can't sleep right now,".
Kryger confirmed to Norwegian broadcaster NRK on 3/9 that the departures were mutual. "The club and I agreed to part ways," Kryger stated. "It didn't end on the best of terms, but sometimes things happen that way. I had a great time here. I wish Bryne FK all the best,".
Bryne FK currently sits in 14th place out of 16 teams in the 2025 Norwegian Championship after 20 rounds, a position that would force them into a playoff with a second-division team. With 10 rounds remaining, the club is fighting to avoid relegation, as the 15th and 16th placed teams face automatic demotion.
Although born in England, Haaland moved to Bryne at the age of three and joined Bryne FK's academy two years later, staying for 11 years. Bryne has a population of around 12,000, and Bryne FK's stadium holds 5,000 spectators.
Between 2015 and 2017, Haaland played 14 matches, scoring 18 goals for Bryne FK's B team in the fourth division and 16 matches for the first team in the second division. His career then took him to Molde (another Norwegian club), Salzburg in Austria, Dortmund in Germany, and finally to Man City in England. To date, Haaland has scored 282 goals in 349 club appearances (excluding his time with Bryne FK's B team), winning two English Premier League titles and one Champions League.
At only 25, Haaland also holds the record for most goals scored for the Norwegian national team, with 42. Norway faces Finland and Moldova in World Cup 2026 qualifiers on 4/9 and 9/9.
In 2023, Haaland paid 16,300 USD to help 200 Bryne FK fans travel to a promotion playoff match against Start.
