At MetLife Stadium, Brazil had an early opportunity to take the lead in the 13th minute, earning a penalty after Matheus Cunha was fouled inside Norway's box. However, midfielder Bruno Guimaraes failed to beat goalkeeper Orjan Nyland. The five-time World Cup champions would soon pay for this missed chance.
The deadlock was broken in the 79th minute when substitute Andreas Schjelderup delivered a pass to Haaland. The forward made a powerful run between two Brazilian center-backs, heading the ball precisely into the net to give Norway a 1-0 lead.
As Brazil committed their entire squad forward in search of an equalizer, Norway launched a swift counter-attack in the 90th minute. Haaland received the ball at the edge of the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot into the bottom corner, beating Alisson Becker and extending Norway's lead to 2-0.
In the final seconds of added time, Brazil was awarded a second penalty. Neymar successfully converted it, narrowing the score to 2-1, but the final whistle blew immediately afterward, confirming Norway's victory.
