Haaland suffers lip injury in bus mishap

Erling Haaland jokingly blamed teammate Martin Odegaard for a split lip he sustained before Norway's World Cup 2026 qualifier against Moldova.

The incident occurred as Haaland exited the team bus at their Oslo hotel. The 25-year-old striker was struck in the face by the luggage compartment door, resulting in a deep cut below his lip that required three stitches.

Witnesses described a loud bang upon impact, with Haaland crying out in pain before being escorted into the hotel by security personnel and team doctor Ola Sand.

Following treatment, Haaland reassured fans with a photo of the injury on Snapchat, captioning it: "Just got pranked by the bus door, three stitches. All good though." He also joked about the incident, saying the cut "looks kind of cool" and playfully blaming teammate Odegaard.

When a fan asked if he had been punched, Haaland replied, "Hahaha, wrong guess." Another fan teased that Odegaard was the culprit, to which the Manchester City forward responded, "Exactly."

Haaland posted a picture of his split lip, jokingly blaming Odegaard.

In a later press conference, captain Odegaard confirmed that Haaland was fine. "I didn't see it happen, but I heard he got hit in the face by the door. It didn't sound pleasant, but he's okay now. It's just a small cut," the Arsenal midfielder stated.

Coach Stale Solbakken added that Haaland's injury wasn't serious and he would be available for the World Cup 2026 Group I qualifier against Moldova.

Norway currently leads Group I with 12 points, three points ahead of Israel and Italy. The group winner qualifies directly for the 2026 World Cup, while the runner-up advances to the second stage of qualifying.

On 4/9, Haaland scored the only goal in Norway's friendly win against Finland at Ullevaal Stadium. With 43 goals in 44 matches, he has broken the 87-year-old national scoring record, becoming Norway's all-time leading scorer.
