Highlights of the HDBank Green Marathon 2026 season

The HDBank Green Marathon 2026 features several adjustments to offer a fresh experience, guiding runners through green paths within mangrove forests and maintaining diverse distances for children, families, and seasoned runners.

The HDBank Green Marathon 2026 returns to Can Gio on 19-20/9, marking its fifth season in the coastal district southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Beyond the various running distances, the event will continue its series of community activities and runner experiences, while also introducing organizational changes to create a novel feel.

One significant change designed to enhance the runner experience is the new expo location. This year, the expo will be set up at the Can Gio Youth Cultural House, a shift from the indoor stadium used in previous seasons. Bib distribution will commence at 8:00 AM on 19/9.

The indoor stadium, previously hosting the expo, will now serve as a sleeping and camping area for runners. This adjustment addresses the need for on-site accommodation for participants. Conveniently, both locations are situated opposite each other, allowing runners staying at the stadium easy access to the expo and the starting line.

The 2026 racekit also features an updated competition uniform. Unlike previous seasons where runners wore sleeved shirts, this year the organizers have opted for a singlet design. This sleeveless style is widely favored in running events, promoting dynamism and comfort during competition. The medal is another highlight, designed in a teardrop shape to evoke the region's river network and subtly convey a message of conservation. At the medal's center is the mangrove tree, a symbol of Can Gio's unique ecosystem, which shelters and nurtures thousands of animal, plant, amphibian, and reptile species. The racekit will still include essential items such as a race shirt, hat, sling bag, and bib, along with products from sponsors.

A defining characteristic of the HDBank Green Marathon is its location. Can Gio boasts a mangrove forest ecosystem recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve, providing a distinct environment compared to many races in large urban centers.

The race route continues to immerse runners in Can Gio's two characteristic landscapes. Shorter distances will focus on routes around the central commune area, including Le Hung Yen, Duyen Hai, and Luong Van Nho streets. These densely populated arteries offer runners a glimpse into the evolving landscape of Can Gio commune. For longer distances, runners will not only traverse the central area but also experience the Rung Sac route, winding through the mangrove forest. This blend of urban and mangrove forest paths creates an exciting dynamic for the race, transforming the competition into a journey of discovery. Runners can enjoy the fresh morning air and capture memorable photos along the forest route. Supporting runners throughout the course is a system of 14 water and medical stations, operating in both directions to ensure participants can refuel and stay safe.

The HDBank Green Marathon caters to a broad audience, extending beyond seasoned runners to introduce running to the wider community through diverse experiences. The main race categories include 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km, accommodating various training levels. Newcomers can choose shorter distances to familiarize themselves with the race atmosphere, while experienced runners can aim for a half marathon or full marathon.

In addition to the main distances, the first day of the event will feature experiential and connecting activities. Children's distances, including 1.5 km and 3 km, provide a space for young runners to engage with running, promote health, and foster an active lifestyle. Meanwhile, the team relay event emphasizes coordination, building strong bonds among participants. The 200 m "husband carrying wife" event remains a unique highlight of the race. Not focused on performance, this challenge offers couples an opportunity to participate in a shared sporting activity, thereby strengthening their connection and affection. According to the organizers, combining various activities allows the race to appeal to diverse groups, from multi-generational families and groups of friends to long-time runners.

The "Green Marathon" name reflects the event's overarching commitment to environmental and local community causes. On the morning of 19/9, organizers and runners will plant trees, contributing to the greening of the Can Gio mangrove ecosystem, and conduct a beach cleanup. Additionally, the event will include community-oriented activities and social welfare gift distributions.

At the expo area, HDBank will also showcase digital touchpoints, allowing athletes and attendees to explore its ecosystem of digital products and services, such as mobile banking applications, cards, and eKYC, in an intuitive and convenient manner. Online interaction and feedback channels will also provide a feedback loop, where every customer's input becomes data for HDBank to continuously enhance the quality of its experience. An HDBank representative stated that over half a decade, the race has become a familiar rendezvous for the running community in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring areas. The event not only promotes sportsmanship but also highlights the image of Can Gio – one of Ho Chi Minh City's new growth poles.
