This marks the first time in 50 years that Man Utd have lost at Old Trafford after holding a two-goal advantage. Following the final whistle, boos and whistles echoed around Old Trafford. A group of fans even chanted in unison, "What the hell is going on?"
Returning to Old Trafford just three days after their defeat to Man City, Man Utd started as if eager to erase memories of the derby. Shea Lacey and Mason Mount scored two goals within the first 10 minutes, giving the home side what seemed like a comfortable lead. However, this advantage quickly evaporated as Brighton scored three goals in approximately 24 minutes to complete their comeback.

Lacey was a rare bright spot for Man Utd on a disappointing evening. Making his first start under Michael Carrick, the 19-year-old talent immediately made his mark in the eighth minute. Receiving the ball from Youri Tielemans on the right, Lacey cut inside and unleashed a left-footed shot from outside the penalty area. The shot was powerful and precise, leaving Jason Steele with no chance to save.
The goal held special significance for Lacey. He became the first teenager to score on his first start for Man Utd since Marcus Rashford in 2016. Lacey then ran to kiss the badge on his shirt, celebrating joyfully to the cheers of the Old Trafford crowd.
Two minutes later, Man Utd doubled their lead. Rashford accelerated down the left flank, penetrating Brighton's penalty area and forcing Steele to make a diving save. The rebound fell directly to Mount, and the English midfielder immediately volleyed it, the ball bouncing off the ground and into the net.
