Former Champions League winners Dortmund dropped two surprising points in their Bundesliga opener against St. Pauli last week. Dortmund led 3-1 until the final minutes of the match, thanks to goals from Serhou Guirassy (34rd minute), Felix Nmecha (67th minute), and Julian Brandt (74th minute). However, St. Pauli mounted a late comeback with goals from Elias Saad (86th minute) and Hauke Wahl (89th minute) to secure a draw. Jackson Irvine scored St. Pauli's other goal in the 50th minute.

Jobe Bellingham, the 19-year-old midfielder recently acquired by Dortmund from Sunderland for 43 million USD, was taken off at halftime. His father, Mark Bellingham, watched from the stands and appeared visibly upset. After the match, the Bellingham family waited for Jobe in the tunnel. There, Mark Bellingham confronted Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, in a heated exchange. He also attempted to speak with coach Edin Terzic, who made the decision to substitute Jobe.
Dortmund management responded swiftly to the incident by banning families of players from the area around the dressing room. "That area is exclusively for players, coaches, and club officials, not for families or player advisors," Kehl said. "This will not happen again. We will ensure that everyone involved is fully aware of this.".

Jobe's older brother, Jude Bellingham, was a star player for Dortmund from 2020 to 2023. In June 2023, he transferred to Real Madrid for 115 million USD. During the 2023-2024 season, Jude scored 14 goals, contributing to Real Madrid's Champions League and La Liga victories.
Dortmund and the Bellingham family hope Jobe will develop similarly to his brother. Last season, Jobe helped Sunderland finish 4th in the Championship and secure promotion to the Premier League after a 2-1 playoff victory against Luton Town. He also played 4 matches and scored one goal for Dortmund in the recent FIFA Club World Cup.
