Launch of national sports channel

On the morning of 8/6, Vietnam Television launched VTV6, marking the first time a dedicated 24-hour sports television channel has been broadcast.

With the message "For a healthy Vietnam", the new channel focuses not only on top domestic and international tournaments but also on sports activities integral to daily life, such as school sports, community events, amateur competitions, and traditional Vietnamese disciplines.

Viewers can follow live sports events, news updates, in-depth commentary and analysis programs, as well as various segments on health, nutrition, and active living.

The channel dedicates significant airtime to content previously underrepresented in sports television. This includes student tournaments, local sports movements, community physical training activities, and sports linked to Vietnamese cultural identity.

Beyond covering professional sports, the channel also highlights stories behind athletic achievements. These include athletes’ arduous training journeys, examples of overcoming adversity, or ordinary people choosing sports to improve their health and quality of life.

The channel broadcasts continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across digital terrestrial television, cable television, satellite television, and the VTVgo digital platform. This enables viewers to access content on various devices, not just traditional tivi screens.

Viewers interested in daily sports news can follow fixed bulletins at 6:30, 11:45, 18:30, and 22:00. The broadcast schedule will also be flexibly adjusted for prominent domestic and international events, especially during major tournaments.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Nguyen Thanh Lam, Director General of Vietnam Television, stated that the choice of the VTV6 name holds special significance as it was once a familiar brand to many generations of young audiences. The channel, in its new form, will inherit the dynamic, modern spirit of the old brand while expanding to include content on sports, health, and healthy lifestyles.

He added that the channel's goal extends beyond broadcasting matches; it aims to provide knowledge that helps people train correctly, build proper nutrition regimens, and form regular exercise habits.

At the event, Trinh Van Quyet, Head of the Central Propaganda and Training Commission, reiterated President Ho Chi Minh’s call for physical exercise from 1946 and emphasized the role of health in national development. According to him, sports media not only reports on matches but also helps spread positive lifestyles and encourages people to engage in physical training.

The launch ceremony took place at S1 studio, attended by numerous leaders, athletes, and guests. The program commenced with vovinam and karate performances by martial artists who had won gold medals at the SEA Games and Asiad. At precisely 10:00, delegates performed the activation ritual, officially putting the channel’s new logo on air.

The demand for observing and participating in sports activities is growing, aligning with the call for mass sports development by General Secretary and President To Lam. In recent years, movements like running, cycling, gym training, pickleball, and community football have thrived in many localities. Concurrently, Vietnam’s sports achievements at the SEA Games, Asiad, and other international tournaments have further attracted public interest.
