According to ESPN, Luis Diaz expressed his desire to leave Liverpool in the summer of 2024. At that time, Liverpool maintained a firm stance while reassessing the squad and the transfer market. Liverpool also twice offered Diaz a contract extension, but these attempts were unsuccessful due to a significant gap between the player's desired salary and the club's offer.

When the 2025 summer transfer window opened, several big clubs, including Barca and Bayern, pursued Diaz. However, due to insufficient funds, Barca shifted focus and completed the loan signing of Marcus Rashford from Man Utd.
Bayern submitted an initial offer of around 80 million USD, which was quickly rejected by Liverpool. However, the two sides reached an agreement when Bayern increased their offer to 88 million USD.
This figure is considerably higher than the 57 million USD Liverpool paid to acquire Diaz from Porto. Today, the Colombian forward is expected to fly from Tokyo, where Liverpool is currently on tour, to Germany for a medical examination and to finalize the remaining procedures.
Diaz was not registered for Liverpool's 2-4 friendly loss to AC Milan in Hong Kong on 26/7. After the match, coach Arne Slot admitted the player's absence was due to a transfer issue.
According to *Sportmail*, the sale of Diaz paves the way for Liverpool to reinvest in their squad, and they will soon submit an official offer to Newcastle for Alexander Isak. The Swedish forward withdrew from Newcastle's pre-season tour in Asia citing a thigh injury. Although medical tests revealed the issue was not serious, Isak remained in Tyneside and expressed his desire to join Liverpool.

Newcastle previously refused to negotiate when Liverpool approached Isak two weeks ago. But a proposed offer of 150 million GBP (approximately 203 million USD)—a British football record—could change Newcastle's stance. Newcastle has also begun searching for a top-class striker to replace Isak, with their primary target being Benjamin Sesko, the RB Leipzig forward previously sought by Arsenal.
According to *Sky Sports*, despite spending over 400 million USD since the start of the transfer window, Liverpool can still sign Isak thanks to the sustainable financial management strategy of its owner, the American group Fenway Sports Group (FSG), over the years. The reigning Premier League champions could even spend 500 million GBP (675 million USD) during this summer transfer window while still complying with the Premier League's financial fair play regulations (PSR).
Liverpool is being managed very well. In the summer of 2024, Liverpool spent only 14 million USD to recruit Federico Chiesa and earned about 80 million USD from player sales. This surplus is supporting the club in the 2025 summer transfer window.
Liverpool's revenue reached 928 million USD in the most recent financial report. This figure is expected to increase significantly due to commercial and sporting success, along with bonuses from commercial contracts.
