According to the Telegraph, these would be two separate transfers, not a direct swap between Man Utd and Chelsea. The two clubs have not yet opened negotiations, but Garnacho and Nkunku could switch places this transfer window.
Man Utd's director of football, Christopher Vivell, could play a key role. Vivell was previously the technical director at both Chelsea and RB Leipzig when Nkunku moved to Stamford Bridge in June 2023 for 60 million USD.

Chelsea are looking to strengthen their left-wing forward position, with Mykhailo Mudryk—their 119 million USD signing—currently suspended for failing a drug test and facing a potential 4-year ban, while Noni Madueke is attracting interest from other clubs.
Garnacho is on the Blues' three-man shortlist alongside Jamie Gittens (Dortmund) and Malick Fofana (Lyon). Chelsea representatives are in direct talks with Dortmund in the US, as both clubs participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, Garnacho's future at Man Utd seems uncertain due to a conflict with manager Ruben Amorim. The Argentinian forward further fueled the flames by posting a picture of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name—Rashford having been loaned to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024-2025 season.
Man Utd are hoping to recoup around 65 million USD from Garnacho's sale. Selling academy graduates like Garnacho would provide Man Utd with 100% profit under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), significantly improving their financial situation and giving Amorim more funds to acquire suitable players.

In addition to Nkunku, Man Utd are also targeting Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. On 23/6, English media reported that Man Utd submitted a second offer of over 80 million USD to Brentford. If the deal goes through, Mbeumo would surpass goalkeeper Andre Onana (62 million USD) to become the most expensive African player in Old Trafford history.
Last season, Man Utd scored only 44 goals in the Premier League, more than only the three relegated clubs and Everton. Therefore, the Red Devils are prioritizing strengthening their attack this summer and have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves for 85 million USD.
