The Leagues Cup is an annual tournament for clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS) and Liga MX. The tournament is organized by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) to increase competition between the two top football leagues in the region.
After a trial run in 2019, the Leagues Cup officially expanded in 2023. All MLS and Liga MX clubs participate, totaling nearly 50 teams. The tournament includes a group stage and knockout rounds (round of 32, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final). All matches are held in the US and Canada. The top three teams qualify for the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the continental club championship.
In 2023, Inter Miami won their first Leagues Cup, which was also Messi's first title in the US. They failed to defend their title, losing to Columbus Crew in the round of 16 in 2024.
