Newcastle recently rejected Liverpool's USD 162 million offer for Isak. This figure is USD 17 million higher than the current English Premier League transfer record held by Florian Wirtz, the midfielder Liverpool acquired from Leverkusen in June.
According to the Daily Mail on 1/8, Newcastle will only consider selling for USD 200 million. If Liverpool agrees to increase their offer, Isak would shatter his new teammate's record.

Isak is also keen to join Anfield. Playing for the reigning Premier League champions could give the 25-year-old striker access to more trophies than at Newcastle, who finished fifth in the Premier League and won the League Cup last season. Isak is currently training and recovering with his former team, Sociedad, in Spain. According to Newcastle, he missed the Asian tour due to a thigh injury.
Isak rose to prominence after scoring 44 goals in 132 appearances for Sociedad. After joining Newcastle for USD 83 million in 2022, the Swedish striker continued to improve, scoring 62 goals in 109 matches. Last season, Isak scored against Liverpool in a 3-3 draw in the Premier League and a 2-1 victory in the League Cup final.
Real Madrid and Man Utd are also eyeing Isak. After Joselu's departure in the summer of 2024, the Madrid team lacks an experienced center-forward to balance the squad. Putting Kylian Mbappe in this position is only a temporary solution.
Liverpool's total spending this summer is USD 352 million, for Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Hugo Ekitike. Ekitike also plays center-forward, but the reigning Premier League champions still want to buy another. Liverpool previously lost Diogo Jota to a traffic accident.
The world transfer record still belongs to PSG's purchase of Neymar from Barca in 2017 for USD 257 million. A year later, the Parisian team secured the second spot by buying Mbappe from Monaco for USD 200 million.
