According to European media, Onana signed a contract with Trabzonspor on 7/9, pending finalization by the Turkish club. The two teams reached an agreement the previous day, stipulating that Trabzonspor would cover Onana's full salary, potentially reaching 320,000 USD per week, depending on performance. This is almost double his Man Utd wages.
In return, Trabzonspor will not pay a loan fee to Man Utd, and there is no purchase option. This means Onana will return to Man Utd after the 2025-2026 season. The Cameroonian goalkeeper will fly to Turkey on Thursday, September 11th, after the international break, to finalize the deal.

At Man Utd, he earned 200,000 USD per week, but took a 25% pay cut after the "Red Devils" failed to qualify for European competition. Onana sought a raise for a new contract, but his performance didn't convince the management.
Onana's future at Old Trafford has been uncertain since the summer, as Man Utd pursued several other goalkeepers and eventually signed Senne Lammens from Antwerp for 25 million USD on the last day of the transfer window. The Belgian keeper will compete with Altay Bayindir for the starting position, leaving Onana as the third choice.
Onana arrived with high expectations after Man Utd paid 64 million USD to acquire him from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023. However, his recurring errors contributed to Man Utd's defensive instability. This season, he played only one match, in the League Cup, where a mistake led to a defeat against fourth-tier Grimsby Town.
Onana's situation worsened with a hamstring injury sustained during his second training session after the summer break, causing him to miss the entire pre-season tour. Bayindir seized the opportunity to become the first-choice goalkeeper despite his own errors, while Man Utd's management actively sought a replacement.
Before agreeing to the move to Turkey, Onana was offered to Monaco for approximately 40 million USD by Man Utd. He still has three years left on his contract but is no longer part of manager Ruben Amorim’s plans.
Trabzonspor urgently needed a goalkeeper after selling Ugurcan Cakir to Galatasaray. One of the key factors in Onana's decision to move to Turkey was the promised salary increase.
