Stage 5, covering 139 km from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An, proceeded smoothly this morning, 7/4. Teams primarily focused on bringing their key riders to sprint for victory in Vinh City.
About 100 meters from the finish, strong riders began their final push. Nguyen Van Binh veered to the right, crashed into an advertising board, and was thrown from his bike, landing in pain. An ambulance immediately transported him to the hospital for examination. According to Ho Chi Minh City team coach Do Thanh Dat, Van Binh sustained facial abrasions and showed signs of knee pain. He will undergo X-rays to assess the situation.
Nguyen Van Binh, 23 years old, is the cousin of brothers Le Van Duan and Le Nguyet Minh, two former top sprinters in Vietnam. Binh is considered one of Vietnam's premier sprinters. In the 2025 HTV Cup, he secured one stage victory and numerous second-place finishes behind foreign riders.
In this year's race, Van Binh finished second in stage two and currently wears the orange jersey, awarded to the best Vietnamese rider. Following this incident, he will likely lose the jersey to Nguyen Van Nha of Dong Nai.
Marchuk Dzianis of Dong Nai secured first place in this stage. This victory further solidified his yellow jersey lead and extended his advantage in the green jersey classification (sprinter king) over his rivals. The white jersey remains with Lam Gia Hao of Dong Thap. Dong Nai leads the team classification.
