Overseas Vietnamese player delivers defeat to HAGL

Australian midfielder Khoa Ngo scored the sole goal, securing a 1-0 victory for Ho Chi Minh City Police Club over HAGL in round 15 of V-League 2025-2026 on the evening of 7/3.

In the 45th minute of the match at Pleiku Stadium, Makrillos Peter delivered an assist that sliced through HAGL's defense, allowing Khoa Ngo to break free and tap the ball in from close range past goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien.

Earlier, Khoa Ngo had also set up Makrillos inside the box, but the visiting forward's shot from 5 meters was saved by Trung Kien. In the second half, Khoa Ngo threatened HAGL's goal with a powerful shot, but the home goalkeeper denied him again.

Khoa Ngo, whose real name is Ngo Dang Khoa, was born in 2006 in Perth, Australia. The 21-year-old player has Vietnamese parents. He stands 1.65 m tall and weighs 65 kg, playing as an attacking midfielder or winger, known for his speed and skillful technique.

Khoa Ngo developed through the Perth Glory academy and turned professional at 19. He is the first player of Vietnamese descent to play and score in the A-League, Australia's national championship. After 26 appearances for Perth Glory, Khoa Ngo moved to Vietnam in early 2026 to play for CA TP HCM.

He scored his first goal for CA TP HCM in round 12, securing a 2-1 victory against hosts PVF-CAND. Today's goal against HAGL marks his second, helping CA TP HCM end a two-match losing streak and climb into the top 4. "In the previous two matches, we were unlucky. In this match, the team missed many chances but still scored and got three points. We are very pleased and happy with this", Khoa Ngo said after the match.

In contrast to Khoa Ngo, striker Nguyen Tien Linh was disappointing, missing two close-range scoring opportunities from 2 meters against goalkeeper Trung Kien. Conversely, goalkeeper Patrick Le Giang's excellent performance played a significant role in securing the victory for the visiting team.

In round 16, CA TP HCM will host PVF-CAND, while HAGL will visit Da Nang.
