Following Tottenham's failed experiment with Antonin Kinsky against Atletico yesterday, attention in Paris turned to a key goalkeeping decision. Head coach Liam Rosenior chose Filip Jorgensen over Robert Sanchez, who performed well against PSG in last summer's FIFA Club World Cup final and remains Chelsea's primary goalkeeper.
Sanchez's declining form prompted Rosenior to give Jorgensen a chance in the goalkeeper's biggest match. Chelsea's away result mirrored Tottenham's the day before. The English side lost 2-5, as their goalkeeper made a crucial error at a critical juncture.
The first leg of the round of 16 at Parc des Princes was an open affair, with the visitors equalizing twice. However, a mistake by goalkeeper Jorgensen gifted the home side their third lead. Under no pressure, the Danish goalkeeper made an under-hit pass that Bradley Barcola intercepted. Kvaratskhelia then passed to Vitinha, and the Portuguese midfielder chipped the ball over Jorgensen's head, making it 3-2 in the 74th minute.
