The decisive moment in "Le Classique" at the Velodrome on 22/9 came in the 5th minute.
Mason Greenwood's cross from the right wing deflected off a PSG player and went airborne. Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, Donnarumma's replacement, missed the punch, allowing defender Nayef Aguerd to head the ball into an empty net. At 4 minutes and 3 seconds, it was the earliest goal Marseille had scored against PSG in any competition in 45 years.

Marseille could have won by a larger margin if they had capitalized on their opportunities, including Emerson Palmieri being denied by an offside call and Amine Gouiri hitting the woodwork.
However, the 1-0 result was enough for Marseille to defeat PSG at the Velodrome in Ligue 1 for the first time in 14 years. Back then, French President Emmanuel Macron was working in banking, Kylian Mbappe was 12 years old, and Neymar was still playing for Santos in Brazil.
Conversely, PSG suffered their first defeat and lost their leading position. Currently, four clubs share 12 points in Ligue 1: Monaco, PSG, Lyon, and Strasbourg. PSG sits in second place due to an inferior goal difference compared to Monaco (10 versus 13). Marseille climbed to sixth place with 9 points.

The match was postponed for a day due to storms in southern France, coinciding with the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris. Ousmane Dembele received the award and celebrated with teammates Desire Doue and Joao Neves. The three injured players were unable to play against Marseille and were allowed by PSG to attend the Ballon d'Or gala.
PSG also won several other awards, including "Best Men's Team." Luis Enrique was awarded Best Men's Coach after leading PSG to victory in Ligue 1, the French Cup, the League Cup, and the Champions League.
