Pascal Kaiser, a 27-year-old amateur referee, was assaulted by three men in his garden on 7/2, just over a week after his public same-sex marriage proposal. The attack left Kaiser with an eye injury, and he believes the incident is directly linked to his proposal. Prior to the assault, he had received threats that specifically mentioned his home address.

The proposal occurred on 31/1 before the kickoff of the Cologne - Wolfsburg match in the 20th round of the Bundesliga. Kaiser proposed to his boyfriend, Moritz, who accepted. The emotional moment was met with applause from over 50,000 spectators, and images of the proposal quickly spread worldwide.
This public proposal took place during a sports diversity day, an initiative designed to promote inclusion, acceptance, and equality. The event also aims to combat discrimination based on age, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, or religion, providing an occasion for teams and fans to celebrate diversity and strengthen social cohesion.
However, the joy surrounding Kaiser and Moritz's special moment soon turned to sorrow. The video of the proposal, after appearing online, sparked a wave of hate messages directed at the couple.
Police are currently investigating the assault on Kaiser.
