Nguyen Thuy Linh has climbed to a career-high 17th in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) women’s singles rankings, updated on 18/9. Linh, who was previously ranked 18th, gained one spot with 48,630 points.
This is the highest ranking ever achieved by the 28-year-old. She previously held the 18th spot twice, on 22/7 and 2/9/2025.

Linh, who hails from Phu Tho province, is the only Vietnamese woman in the world’s top 100. Former Vietnamese number one, Vu Thi Trang, dropped seven places to 138th with 12,430 points.
An Se-young of South Korea remains the world number one with 111,270 points, followed by Wang Zhi Yi of China with 106,862 points and Han Yue, also of China, with 91,200 points.
In the men's singles, Nguyen Hai Dang, who reached the quarterfinals of the Vietnam Open 2025, dropped one place to 63rd with 24,150 points. Le Duc Phat fell two spots to 85th (20,360 points) after an early exit from the same tournament.
Due to limited international competition, veteran Nguyen Tien Minh is ranked 362nd with 3,630 points.

Linh retired from the China Masters on 17/9 due to injury and returned to Vietnam today for treatment. The Dong Nai player has also withdrawn from the Korea Open.
She is expected to return to competition in October after recovering. She plans to compete in European tournaments in Finland, Denmark, Germany, and France to accumulate points and improve her ranking, aiming to be a seeded player at the 33rd SEA Games. Linh is a five-time SEA Games participant, with one bronze medal in the team event.
Born on 20/11/1997 in Phu Tho, Linh began her professional career at 14. Four years later, she won the 2015 National Badminton Championships. Since 2018, she has been Vietnam’s top female player, winning the national championship eight consecutive times. She also won the Vietnam Open three times in a row from 2022 and competed in the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympics.
