Thuy Linh missed the opportunity to achieve the best result in Vietnamese badminton history in the women's singles category. No Vietnamese player has ever reached the quarterfinals in this event. However, Chen, a former world number one and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist, was a formidable opponent.
Thuy Linh's tournament run included victories over former world number one Ratchanok Intanon and Kirsty Gilmour, before her loss to Chen. Reaching the round of 16 earns her 6,000 BWF ranking points. With these points, Thuy Linh is projected to rise three or four spots in next week's rankings, returning to the top 20.
The BWF rankings are crucial for seeding in international tournaments. Thuy Linh's highest ranking was 18th, on 22/7/2025. With continued success, she could set a new personal best.
The world championships are one of the two most prestigious events in badminton, alongside the Olympics. Both events award the same number of BWF ranking points, with the champion receiving 14,500. This year's women's singles quarterfinals were contested entirely among the top 16 seeded players.
Vietnam no longer has any representatives in the tournament. Vu Thi Trang and the men's doubles pair Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh were previously eliminated in the second round. The two men's singles players, Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang, were eliminated in the first round.
