Tran Thi Duyen: Vietnam women's national team's energetic star

Returning from injury, Tran Thi Duyen has become a reliable right-back, contributing to the Vietnam women's national team's bronze medal win at the 2025 ASEAN Cup.

Tran Thi Duyen (number 15) was given a starting spot in all five of the host nation's matches at the 2025 Women's ASEAN Cup by coach Mai Duc Chung.

Playing on the right wing, she impressed with her interceptions, tenacious marking of opposing attackers, and frequent forward runs to support her teammates in attack.

"I'm always grateful that I didn't give up. I'm grateful to my coaches, friends, and family who always supported and encouraged me every day, especially during times of injury, to rise again with football," Duyen said.

Thanks to her attractive appearance, Duyen is frequently invited to participate in advertisements for fashion brands. It's a good source of income, but for her, football remains her endless passion.

In the group stage, Vietnam defeated Cambodia, Indonesia, and Thailand. However, they lost 2-1 to the physically superior U23 Australia in the semi-finals.

In the bronze medal match on the evening of 19/8, Duyen and her teammates regained their joy and pride with a 3-1 victory over Thailand at Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong.

"I'm happy and excited to win my first medal with the national team," Duyen shared with VnExpress. "Even though it's only a bronze medal, it still means a lot to me. It's motivation for me to strive in my career."

The 25-year-old defender also expressed her surprise and joy at consistently being given a starting spot in this tournament. She considers it recognition from the coaching staff, as well as a testament to her continuous efforts after years of struggling with injuries.

Duyen was born in 2000 in An Ninh, Ha Nam (formerly, now Ninh Binh).

She began her football career in 2012 before being called up to the national team in 2018. Due to injuries, Duyen has missed several major tournaments.

During the times she was sidelined from the Vietnam national team, Duyen often returned to her hometown or participated in futsal to ease her longing for football.

Besides her professional skills, determination, and fiery spirit on the field, Tran Thi Duyen also attracts attention with her pretty appearance and friendly, cheerful personality.

During two matches in the recent tournament, even when their team lost, Thai fans still complimented the beauty of the 25-year-old Vietnamese defender.

In her free time, Duyen enjoys traveling, particularly to quiet and peaceful places.

She said that after the 2025 ASEAN Cup, her biggest desire is to conquer and win a gold medal with the Vietnam team at the upcoming 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.
