During a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the White House on 22/8, Trump joked about wanting to play because soccer players earn good money. "I could play. I see the money these soccer players are making. Maybe I should give it a try! I'm a very good athlete," the former president said.

Trump also praised his youngest son, Barron, who is 6'9", as a talented player with exceptional height. "My son is a very good athlete, a good soccer player, and unusually tall for a player - he's 6'9". Pretty tall, right?" he expressed.
Infantino responded with a smile and said, "Quite tall, but that's good!".
Trump continued to joke, "Maybe I'll wear soccer shorts; I look very good in shorts, and then go out and play." This statement made the audience laugh.

During the meeting with Infantino, Trump attracted attention by wearing a hat printed with the words "Trump Was Right About Everything". This is a slogan often used by Trump supporters to assert that his predictions, views, or policies, although controversial, are ultimately considered correct.
Trump announced that the 2026 World Cup draw will take place on 5/12 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board. The former president also called the World Cup "the biggest sporting event in the world".
At the White House, Infantino brought the World Cup trophy, which is only supposed to be touched by the champions. But Trump broke with tradition, held the trophy and said, "It's pretty heavy. A beautiful gold piece. Maybe I'll keep it on display."
The 2026 World Cup will have a total of 104 matches, with the US hosting 78, Canada 13, and Mexico 13. The matches in Canada will take place in Toronto and Vancouver, while Mexico will host in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.
FIFA has also opened an office in Miami and even located its headquarters at Trump Tower in New York. When asked if he wanted to draw the lots for the 2026 World Cup groups himself, Trump smiled and said, "Not a bad idea." Infantino also did not rule out this possibility.
Recently, Trump has continuously spoken and attended soccer events with Infantino. The former president hosted Juventus players at the White House, took center stage during the FIFA Club World Cup trophy presentation to champions Chelsea, and declared his readiness to sign an executive order to rename soccer in the US.
