The men's football tournament at SEA Games 33 features 9 teams divided into three groups. Teams will play a single round-robin format, with the three group winners and the best runner-up advancing to the semifinals.
"Regarding the format, if we achieve one win and one draw, we have a strong chance of advancing from the group stage," coach Ha Hyeok-jun stated at a pre-match press conference at Rajamangala Stadium on the afternoon of 2/12. He added, "The path to the semifinals is not easy. We have put in our best effort and prepared thoroughly."

The South Korean coach opened the press conference by citing the Chinese proverb, "Ren Zai Zuo, Tian Zai Kan" (What people do, Heaven watches). Coach Ha then remarked, "Only Heaven knows the outcome of tomorrow's match against Vietnam or the subsequent game with Malaysia."
In preparation for the U22 squad, coach Ha integrated several players into the senior national team to gain experience and refine their playing style. The team also features two key players currently competing in Thailand, who are expected to make a significant impact: midfielder Sayfon Keohanam from Suphanburi and defender Phoutthavong Sangvilay from BG Pathum United.
Additionally, coach Ha expressed gratitude for four losses against Vietnam under coach Kim Sang-sik. "Facing Vietnam has helped Laos become more resilient and stronger," coach Ha stated. "Coach Kim is skilled and has built a good team."
Historically at the SEA Games, Laos has lost all 10 matches against Vietnam. However, the South Korean coach hopes for a surprise tomorrow, also as a way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Laos' National Day (3/12/1975 – 3/12/2025).
The match between Vietnam and Laos will take place at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, at 4 PM on 3/12.
