Vietnam crowned 'king of qualifiers' for 2025 asian football tournaments

In the qualifying rounds for asian football tournaments concluding in 2025, only Vietnam and Japan secured all available berths.

Vietnam successfully qualified for all seven tournaments this year: the women's Asian Cup, U20 and U17 women's futsal Asian Cups, and the U23, U17, and men's futsal Asian Cups.

The men's Asian Cup will conclude in 3/2025 with a match between Vietnam and Malaysia. Coach Kim Sang-sik's squad has a strong chance to qualify if the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) disciplines Malaysia.

Vietnam did not qualify for the U20 men's Asian Cup; however, its qualifying round took place in 2024.

In the Asian Cup Women 2026 qualifiers held in 7/2025, coach Mai Duc Chung's team won all three matches against Maldives, UAE, and Guam, scoring 17 goals and conceding none.

For the U20 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers in 8/2025, coach Okiyama Masahiko's squad also won all three matches against Singapore, Hong Kong, and Kyrgyzstan, scoring 14 goals without conceding.

During the U17 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers in 10/2025, coach Masahiko's team secured victories in both matches against Guam and Hong Kong, scoring 6 goals and keeping clean sheets.

In the Futsal Women's Asian Cup qualifiers in 1/2025, Vietnam won two matches and drew one against Myanmar, Macau, and Dai Loan, scoring 28 goals and conceding three times.

At the U23 Men's Asian Cup qualifiers in 9/2025, coach Kim's team achieved a perfect record, winning all three matches against Bangladesh, Singapore, and Yemen, scoring four goals and maintaining clean sheets.

Also in 9/2025, the Futsal Men's Asian Cup qualifiers saw coach Diego Giustozzi's team defeat Hong Kong, Trung Quoc, and Lebanon, scoring 20 goals and conceding only three times.

Most recently, in the U17 Asian Cup qualifiers in 11/2025, coach Cristiano Roland's team won all five matches against Singapore, QD Bac Mariana, Hong Kong, Macau, and Malaysia.

Vietnam stands as the only Southeast Asian nation to have qualified for all Asian tournaments in 2025. In contrast, regional rival Thailand failed to qualify for the women's Asian Cup.

The 11-a-side football teams collectively scored 71 goals in this year's Asian qualifiers, without conceding any. All seven national teams, including futsal, won 21 matches and drew one out of 22 games.

Across Asia, only Japan also qualified for seven tournaments this year.
