Vietnam secures injury-time victory at women's Asian Cup 2026

Forward Ngan Thi Van Su's two goals, including a late winner, helped Vietnam defeat India 2-1 in their group C opener at the women's Asian Cup 2026, which also serves as a World Cup qualifier, on the evening of 4/3.

The women's Asian Cup 2026 is being held from 1/3 to 21/3 across three Australian cities: Sydney, Perth, and Gold Coast. A total of 12 teams are competing, divided into three groups. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.

The four teams that reach the semifinals will automatically qualify for the World Cup. The four losing teams from the quarterfinals will enter a playoff round to compete for two additional berths. Subsequently, the two teams that lose these playoffs will proceed to inter-continental playoffs. They will be joined by representatives from Africa, South America, North and Central America (2), Oceania, and Europe (1). These teams will then vie for the final three World Cup spots in 2/2027.

Vietnam is placed in group C, with all their matches taking place in Perth. Their schedule includes facing India on 4/3, Taiwan on 7/3, and Japan on 10/3.

The starting lineups for the match were:

Vietnam: Kim Thanh, Tran Thi Duyen, Diem My, Duong Thi Van, Thu Thao, Huynh Nhu, Thai Thi Thao, Thanh Nha, Van Su, Cu Thi Huynh Nhu, Bich Thuy.

India: Panthoi Chanu, Sweety, Hemam, Sangita, Guguloth, Sanju, Pyrari, Dangmei, Nirmala, Martina, Manisha.
