Carrick still holds premier league title hopes

Interim manager Michael Carrick believes anything is possible in football, but he acknowledges that Man Utd needs an almost perfect winning streak to contend for the premier league title.

Carrick has transformed Man Utd, securing six wins and one draw in seven matches, earning 19 out of a possible 21 points since taking over. This is the best Premier League record during that period. This impressive run has propelled the "Red Devils" to third place and significantly advanced their pursuit of a Champions League spot.

Despite this strong form, Man Utd still trails Arsenal by 13 points, having played one fewer match, with only 10 rounds remaining in the season. Ahead of their away game against Newcastle in round 29 of the Premier League, Carrick addressed the possibility of catching Mikel Arteta's team.

"In football, you cannot rule anything out", Carrick said. "But we also have to be realistic. The important thing is to keep winning and see what happens. Above us are two excellent teams, and there are many strong teams around us. We are on a good run, but we must not be complacent. The entire team needs to be patient, capitalize on the current confidence, and continue to move forward."

Carrick previously won five Premier League titles under Alex Ferguson as a Man Utd player. When asked if the legendary Scottish manager's fierce competitive spirit could inspire a title challenge, Carrick stated he always maintains an optimistic outlook. "I always look at the glass half full rather than the negative side", the English manager said. "But we need to win many more matches for that to happen. We will approach one game at a time."

He emphasized that the team would focus entirely on the match against Newcastle before a short break, then prepare for the game against Aston Villa on 15/3.

Carrick's contract runs until the end of the season. He remained cautious when asked about the possibility of a permanent appointment, despite the impressive start. "I love the job here and always think about the long-term benefit of the club", the 44-year-old coach expressed. "However long I stay, I must make the best decisions for the team's future. Winning certainly helps, but let's wait and see where things go."

Despite Newcastle losing three of their last home matches and trailing Man Utd by 15 points, Carrick still warned: "It is always a difficult ground. When they play well and have the crowd's support, things become very challenging. We must be ready."
