Xuan Son parts ways with Vietnam national team due to injury

Nguyen Xuan Son sidelined for at least six weeks with hamstring tear after Vietnam's 1-0 win against the Philippines in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 group B opener.

In the 60th minute at Si Jalak Harupat stadium in Indonesia, Nguyen Xuan Son fell without contact after controlling the ball, turning, and accelerating at midfield. The forward born in 1997 immediately left the field, replaced by Nguyen Hai Long.

This morning, Xuan Son was taken to a hospital in Bandung for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. Doctors diagnosed a grade two hamstring tear, requiring at least six weeks for recovery.

Xuan Son will depart Indonesia for Vietnam tomorrow, 28/9. According to FIFA regulations, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will cover all medical expenses for players injured while on national team duty.
