Hon Ba peak, part of the Hon Ba Nature Reserve (formerly in Khanh Vinh and Cam Lam districts), is located approximately 50 km southwest of Nha Trang. At 1,578 meters above sea level, the peak boasts a mild climate, earning it the nickname "Da Lat of the coastal city.".

Doan Quang Duc, 38, a Nha Trang resident, recently chose Hon Ba peak as a weekend getaway for his family. Setting off early, he drove from Nha Trang to Suoi Dau intersection, then booked a bus tour at a Hon Ba resort.
The tour provided an open-top bus for the ascent to the summit. The 37 km route is winding and steep, but Duc considered it "quite safe" due to its complete infrastructure, including signs and emergency lanes built by a private company.
The journey offers views of dense forests and mountain streams. The air grows cooler with increasing altitude, and patches of mist add to the majestic atmosphere.

Duc explained that accessing Hon Ba used to be difficult due to strict protection regulations requiring permits. The roads were also challenging and potentially dangerous.
"Now, for a fee of 300,000-900,000 VND per person, visitors can easily explore Hon Ba and enjoy various services provided by the tour operator," Duc said.
After a 40-minute ride, visitors reach the 1,578-meter summit, highlighted by Doctor Alexandre Yersin's former home. This building was designated a National Monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in 2023.
Yersin built the two-story house in 1914, where he lived, conducted research, and cultivated rare medicinal plants. This location is integral to his life and scientific contributions.
"Besides exploring Yersin's legacy, visitors can stroll through flower gardens and relax in the fresh mountain air," Duc added.

Around noon, Duc's family descended to a resort near the mountain's base for activities like swimming in streams, off-road driving, and ziplining. Dining options included a buffet with roasted chicken, roasted pork, and other dishes.
For those interested in learning more about Yersin's life at Hon Ba, Duc recommends the "In the Footsteps of Doctor A. Yersin" tour, priced at 965,000 VND per person. This tour includes the Yersin Museum, A. Yersin Park, Hon Ba, Yersin's tomb, and the Institute of Oceanography.
Duc suggests visiting Hon Ba between June and August for minimal rain and fog, ensuring a safer and more comfortable experience at the summit.
"It's a great escape from the heat near Nha Trang, perfect for families seeking a day trip with diverse activities," Duc concluded.
Hon Ba also appeals to runners participating in the VnExpress Marathon Libera Nha Trang 2025. The event, expected to attract 13,000 runners on August 24th, follows a coastal route past Tran Phu Bridge, Tram Huong Tower, and Luong Son Pass. It concludes the VnExpress Marathon's summer series, catering to runners who enjoy combining sports and tourism.
