On 1/7/2025, Can Tho merged with Hau Giang and Soc Trang, expanding its administrative boundaries and adding cultural and ecological heritage to its tourism map. Previously, the city was considered the heart of the Mekong Delta, but visitor experiences were limited, mainly revolving around Cai Rang Floating Market.

In 2024, the average length of stay was 1.8 days, with spending close to one million dong, lower than many neighboring areas. This expansion is expected to increase the number of destinations but also necessitates refreshing existing offerings and developing regional tourism strategies to encourage longer stays.
Among the new attractions, Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve is considered the "green lung" of the expanded Can Tho. Covering over 2,800 hectares, it boasts a vast melaleuca forest ecosystem, home to hundreds of rare plant and animal species.
Unlike the bustle of man-made tourist areas, Lung Ngoc Hoang offers pristine beauty and tranquility. Visitors can navigate the canals by boat, listen to birdsong, and admire the sunset over the waterways. This immersive experience makes Lung Ngoc Hoang a prime ecotourism destination in the new Can Tho.
Located in the heart of Vi Thanh ward, Xa No Park is a prominent green space along the canal of the same name, a vital waterway dug by the French over a century ago. The park has a modern design with tree-lined paths and spacious areas for recreation, exercise, and community events.

The park also holds historical significance, tied to the development of the Southwest region. The blend of history and urban landscape makes Xa No Park a relaxing stop that evokes the past.
Doi Pagoda (Khmer name: Mahatup), a nationally recognized historical site, is a testament to Khmer culture. Founded in 1569 and restored multiple times, the pagoda features distinctive architecture, including the main hall, sala, and a system of stupas.
The pagoda's namesake comes from the colony of rare flying foxes and fruit bats, with wingspans up to 1.5 meters, that reside there. Every evening, thousands of bats fly out to feed, returning at dawn, creating a magical spectacle.
Another notable Khmer pagoda, Chen Kieu Pagoda (Khmer name: Sa Lon), impresses with its unique architectural style. Unlike traditional religious buildings, it's decorated with thousands of colorful ceramic shards, creating a vibrant and distinctive appearance.
The walls, pillars, and many details sparkle with ceramic glaze, making the pagoda resemble a giant mosaic, both spontaneous and refined. This creativity makes Chen Kieu Pagoda a must-see for those exploring Khmer culture and unique architecture in the new Can Tho.

In contrast to the serenity of the pagodas, Nga Nam Floating Market offers a vibrant river scene. Located at the intersection of five rivers, the market dates back to the French colonial period and quickly became a major trading hub. Every morning, hundreds of boats laden with agricultural produce, fruits, and local goods create a bustling atmosphere unique to the Mekong Delta.
Especially during the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), the market operates almost around the clock, with flower boats lining the river. This vibrant atmosphere makes Nga Nam Floating Market a quintessential cultural experience in the new Can Tho.
These destinations are 40-80 km from Can Tho's center. Tourists and runners participating in the VnExpress Marathon Can Tho can spend a day exploring them. To reach Lung Ngoc Hoang, Doi Pagoda, Chen Kieu Pagoda, and Nga Nam Floating Market, take National Highway 1A for about two hours. To reach Xa No Park, take National Highway 61C.
