On the morning of 14/9, the VnExpress Marathon (VM) Can Tho 2025 attracted around 9,000 domestic and international runners, creating a vibrant atmosphere along the Hau River. For its first time in the Mekong Delta, VM designed a course that conquered 14 bridges and followed streets along the river. The event became an opportunity for international visitors to experience the local culture.

Some international runners shared that, besides their personal achievements, their most memorable moments revolved around beer, a popular beverage in Can Tho.
Anthony from Mexico finished the half marathon (21km) in 1 hour and 48 minutes. He said he initially planned a leisurely run to explore the Mekong Delta with his girlfriend and friends, but ultimately decided to aim for a personal record.
"The day before the race, we drank beer all day in Can Tho and thought we wouldn't be able to run fast. But seeing my friends determined to set personal records (PRs), I tried my best and was surprised by the result," Anthony said. He humorously concluded, "No PR, no beer, but beer, then PR."

Unlike Anthony, David Thomson chose beer as a reward after braving the heat and humidity to complete the 21km. Over 60 years old, he crossed the finish line drenched in sweat but beaming as he saw his family cheering him on.
"The moment the sun rose over the river was amazing. I'm proud to have finished the race, and even happier to have my family share this joy," David said. Immediately after finishing, he stated that what he wanted most was a cold beer.
David was impressed with the vibrant atmosphere along the course. He enjoyed seeing runners dressed up as superheroes, Taoist priests, and cartoon characters, adding to the festive atmosphere.

"It was fun to run alongside so many runners in creative costumes. They made the race less stressful and more enjoyable," David shared.
Matt Black, 42, from New Zealand, chose Can Tho as his next stop on his running journey in Vietnam. He completed the half marathon in 2 hours and 4 minutes, three minutes faster than his time at the VnExpress Marathon Libera Nha Trang last month.

"Starting at 3:30 a.m., the weather was cool, not too hot. The course took me past many city landmarks like Luu Huu Phuoc Park and the city museum. Can Tho has less pollution than Ho Chi Minh City, and the pace of life is more relaxed," Matt commented.
Matt said he has lived and worked in Ho Chi Minh City for three years and frequently participates in long-distance races. For him, Can Tho offered a fresh experience thanks to its riverside setting, the bridges connecting the two banks, and the enthusiastic support of the locals.
"What I liked was experiencing the slow, friendly pace of life while running. Compared to Saigon, it feels like a smaller, cleaner version," he said.
