A tourist named Cao drove alone to the Huanggangliang Mountains in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, during Golden Week (1/10-7/10) for photography. He became stranded while descending the mountain. Heavy snow had already fallen on the ascent road, and by late afternoon on his return, his car experienced an engine oil leak, rendering it immobile.
After receiving Cao's distress call, local police responded that night but could not locate him due to inaccurate GPS. With outside temperatures below -10 degrees Celsius, Cao bundled up in clothes and climbed into his car's trunk to await rescue. He set an alarm every two hours, fearing that if he fell asleep in the sealed trunk, he would suffocate.
The tourist also unlocked his phone and prepared contact information in case of the worst. Meanwhile, police maintained contact with Cao via WeChat, reassuring him to stay calm and await rescue.
