Tourists react to increased ticket prices at Eo Gio tourist area

Despite the Gia Lai Department of Finance requesting a temporary halt to increased ticket prices at the Eo Gio tourist area, the managing company continues to charge 40,000 VND per entry, drawing strong reactions from many tourists.

On the morning of 25/6, dozens of tourists lined up to purchase tickets for the Eo Gio tourist area in Quy Nhon Ward. Even with a "Special Offer" providing a 20% discount, the ticket price remained at 40,000 VND per person. Many visitors expressed that this price did not align with the actual experience.

Le Van Tu, a tourist from Ha Noi, shared his family's disappointment after spending 160,000 VND for four people, only to find a single rest hut and stairs leading to the sea inside the attraction.

"This destination offers little difference compared to other free attractions in Quy Nhon," Tu stated.

Nguyen Thi Diep, visiting from Dak Lak, added that many sections of the railings were cracked and broken, posing a safety risk, yet tourists were still allowed to take photos.

Tran Viet Quang, Chairman of Quy Nhon Ward People's Committee, stated that from 1/6, Star Ha Noi Real Estate Joint Stock Company won the bid to operate and manage the tourist area.

"The company explained that the price increase aims to offset costs for recent landscape renovations," Quang said.

Previously, the management announced a price increase from 22,000 VND to 50,000 VND per entry, effective from 15/6. Following intervention by local authorities and the Department of Finance, the company applied a promotional rate of 40,000 VND (a 20% discount) from 15/6 until 4/7.

Pham Van Thanh, Deputy Director of Gia Lai Provincial Department of Finance, confirmed that during a meeting on 19/6, representatives of Star Ha Noi Real Estate Joint Stock Company agreed to halt the price increase and revert to 22,000 VND per entry. According to Thanh, any price adjustments must be public, seek local opinions, and gain consensus.

However, the company continued to maintain the 40,000 VND per entry fee, leading to further tourist frustration and complaints.

"The Department of Finance will investigate, clarify, and strictly address any violations according to legal regulations," Thanh stated.

Quang added that authorities would continue to work with the company to review and demand price adjustments that align with the actual infrastructure and service quality, ensuring benefits for tourists and the local tourism environment.

In 2022, when operated by the Quy Nhon City People's Committee, the entrance fee here was 22,000 VND per entry. Following administrative boundary adjustments, the tourist site was transferred to the Quy Nhon Dong Ward People's Committee before being auctioned to a private company for operation.

Eo Gio is located on the Phuong Mai peninsula, about 20 km northeast of Quy Nhon, and is a famous, iconic tourist destination of Gia Lai.
