The Hon Chong complex is located on La San hill, in the heart of Nha Trang beach city. Here, rock formations are stacked, facing the bay. From the city center, visitors travel along Tran Phu and Pham Van Dong streets north to reach the site.

Some explanations suggest Hon Chong resulted from erosion, which separated a part of La San hill's base, forming the natural stacked rock cluster.

A large rock at Hon Chong features a deep indentation, which locals call the "giant's handprint". According to local legend, this mark was left when a giant leaned his hand on the rock for leverage while trying to reel in a fish.

The stacked rock is likened to a "heaven's gate". Lan Nguyen, a visitor from Ca Mau, stated that from a distance, the rock appears precarious, feeling "as if it could collapse at any moment".
"Up close, the rock formations are firmly linked, difficult to dislodge, creating a fascinating natural landscape", Nguyen added.

A folk legend explains Hon Chong's formation, linking it to a giant. According to the tale, while resting and admiring fairies playing, he slipped and fell, clutching the mountainside, which collapsed and formed the current stacked rock formations.
Visitors often choose to visit Hon Chong between 6-7h or 16-17h for favorable lighting and to avoid crowds. The entrance fee is 30,000 VND per person.
The scenic area offers free admission for cases such as: international tourist groups, government officials, central ministries and provinces, cadres, soldiers, and residents of Truong Sa island district.
The area near Hon Chong's coastline is outside the coral reef ecosystem's impact zone. When the tide recedes, the rock formations are exposed, creating photo opportunities for visitors.
Tam Nhu, 21, a student from TP HCM, along with her friend, took souvenir photos at the rocks. According to Nhu, the location is ideal for sightseeing and enjoying a peaceful atmosphere.

The Nha Trang bay management board temporarily designated the Hon Chong - Dang Tat sea area as a protected zone from may to august, aiming to safeguard the coral reef ecosystem. Activities in this area are restricted from 16h to 18h on low tide days, primarily in the middle and end of lunar months.
Authorities remind and require kayak groups to leave protected coral reef areas. The management board advises residents and visitors to limit activities that negatively impact coral reefs during this period.

The sea area near Hon Chong hosts a coral ecosystem spanning an 11 ha total area, including recovering sections and coral reefs 5-10 years old.
Authorities prohibit residents and visitors from entering coral and seagrass bed areas, exploiting marine resources, or damaging the landscape and natural ecosystem. Violations will incur administrative fines ranging from 50 to 100 million VND.
