Apocalyptic scenes as Israel attacks Iranian oil facilities

Tehran residents were terrified as thick black smoke engulfed the city following an Israeli attack on Iranian oil facilities.

Israel's military announced on the evening of 7/3 that it attacked "several fuel storage complexes" in Iran. This marks the first time Iranian oil facilities have been targeted since the US-Israel operation began on 28/2. The attack indicates a shift from political and military targets to civilian industrial infrastructure.

The attack ignited massive fireballs, illuminating a section of Tehran's sky throughout the night.

Many Iranian residents described the scene as "apocalyptic" as they witnessed pillars of fire rising, followed by dense black smoke.

Four storage depots and a fuel logistics facility in Tehran and its surrounding areas were targeted. Local officials reported at least 6 fatalities and 20 injuries at one of the targeted locations.

"The situation is terrifying beyond words. Black smoke covers the entire city. I experienced severe breathing difficulties and burning eyes. Many others feel the same way", a Tehran resident said.

As rain poured down on Tehran on the morning of 8/3, authorities warned residents about dangerous acid rain, and many awoke with sore throats and burning eyes.

Iran's environmental agency advised Tehran residents to stay indoors. The country's Red Cross stated that toxic chemicals could cause acid rain, harming skin and lungs, and advised people to avoid going outside immediately after rain. Residents were also recommended to cover food carefully.

Tehran leaders advised everyone who needed to go out to wear masks. Resident Negin stated that masks became harder to buy than usual, adding that many essential goods grew scarce.

A woman in Tehran said she decided to leave the city, driving to her parents' home in the suburbs on 8/3 to seek refuge. She described how the oil facility attacks "turned night into day and day into night" in Tehran.

A 42-year-old restaurant owner living in western Tehran expressed fear of inhaling toxic air and touching contaminated objects, similar to the feeling during the Covid-19 pandemic. "We are even afraid to wipe windows and balconies. A layer of black dust covers everything, and we don't even want to touch it, even with gloves on. The air has an indescribable smell", the man said.

Iran's military warned on 8/3 that it would target oil facilities in the Middle East if Israel continued to attack the country's energy infrastructure.

"We hope the governments of Islamic nations will warn the US and Israel about such cowardly, inhumane actions as soon as possible. Otherwise, similar measures will be taken in the region. If you can withstand oil prices over 200 USD per barrel, then keep playing this game", Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran's Central Command, declared.
