Australian governor-general Sam Mostyn and her husband laid a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum on Monday morning. They were accompanied by Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung and other officials from both countries.
This visit was part of the state visit of the governor-general and her husband to Vietnam from September 9-12, at the invitation of President Luong Cuong and his wife.

During her visit, Ms. Mostyn is scheduled to hold talks with President Luong Cuong, meet with senior leaders of the Vietnamese Communist Party and State, visit the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, attend the Vietnam-Australia Forum 2025, and inaugurate the Australia-Vietnam Policy Institute.
The governor-general is also expected to visit Ho Chi Minh City, meet with city leaders, engage with the Australian community in Vietnam, and visit several cultural and historical sites.

Australia and Vietnam established diplomatic relations on 26/2/1973. The two countries became Comprehensive Strategic Partners in 3/2024. Bilateral trade in 2024 reached 14.1 billion USD, a 2.3% increase compared to 2023. Australia is currently Vietnam's 7th largest trading partner, and Vietnam is Australia's 10th largest.
Nearly 500,000 Australian tourists visited Vietnam in 2024, placing Australia among Vietnam's top 10 tourism markets. The Vietnamese community in Australia numbers around 375,000, making it the 5th largest foreign-born community there.
