Approximately 48 hours after the US intervened in the conflict in support of Israel, ordering bomber strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, President Donald Trump announced on social media on 23/6 that Tel Aviv and Tehran had reached a "total ceasefire agreement".
The ceasefire was implemented in stages and "will officially end the 12-Day War", Trump wrote.
According to a White House official, the ceasefire agreement was established through the mediation efforts of the Trump administration, "after Iran signaled its unwillingness to continue fighting and Trump called to pressure Israeli leaders".

President Trump worked the phones continuously for 48 hours before announcing the Israel-Iran ceasefire. NBC News, citing sources familiar with the matter, said Trump called Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, asking Doha to mediate.
Trump told the Qatari Emir that the US could get Israel to agree to a ceasefire if Qatar could persuade Iran to participate, the official said. Vice President JD Vance then worked with the office of Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on the specifics. Qatari leadership spoke with the Iranian side.
CNN, citing sources familiar with the matter, said after speaking with the Qatari Prime Minister, Iran agreed to the ceasefire proposal, but did not specify who Mohammed spoke with on the Iranian side. A US official said the series of calls with the Emir of Qatar played a vital role in persuading Iran.
Qatar is home to Al Udeid Air Base, a US military installation. On 23/6, Iran launched missiles at Al Udeid and another US base in Iraq in retaliation for Washington's operation. US media, citing three unnamed Iranian officials, reported that Tehran had given Doha advance warning of the attack to minimize casualties.
Diplomatic sources said they expected this limited retaliation from Tehran to be a way to de-escalate tensions and bring Iran back to the negotiating table on its nuclear program.
At 3:53 PM on 23/6, Trump called Iran's retaliation a "weak response".
"Iran has vented its anger; hopefully there will be no more animosity", Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Iran can now move towards peace and harmony in the region, and I will enthusiastically push Israel to do the same".
Immediately after the post, a White House official said Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a blunt message.
"No more war. No more conflict. Iran is already significantly weakened", Trump told Netanyahu, according to the White House official.
After Trump persuaded Netanyahu, Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff relayed the message to Iran, "both directly and indirectly", that Washington wanted a ceasefire and Tehran should agree.
"I thank the Emir of Qatar for everything he has done in trying to promote peace in the region", Trump wrote in another Truth Social post on the afternoon of 23/6. "Congratulations to the world, now is the time for peace".
At 6:02 PM on 23/6 (5:02 AM Hanoi time), Trump announced the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, ending the "12-Day War".
The White House said the name 12-Day War was Trump's idea. Israel agreed to the ceasefire on the condition that Iran stop its attacks, and Tehran agreed to those terms. However, both sides accused each other of violations within the first few hours of the ceasefire, which took effect at noon on 24/6 Hanoi time.

"Israel and Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said 'Peace!'. I knew the time was right. The world, the Middle East, are the real winners! Both nations will find great love, peace, and prosperity in the future", Trump wrote after announcing the ceasefire.
"The two countries can achieve much, but they will also suffer great losses if they deviate from the path of righteousness and truth. The future for Israel and Iran is limitless and full of promise. God bless both nations", the US President continued.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described Trump as having "done what no US president in history could have imagined".
"That is eliminating Iran's nuclear program and achieving an unprecedented ceasefire between Iran and Israel", Leavitt wrote on X.
