Chinese student banned from livestreaming by father for being 'too pretty'

A student who gained attention for her high scores at Tsinghua University has been banned by her father from livestreaming because she is "too pretty".

Zhang Shen Xinran ranked 17th in the 2022 university entrance exam in Guangdong province. She was also the first person from her village in Zhao'an county, Fujian province, southern China, to be admitted to Tsinghua University. Her family awarded her a scholarship of 105,000 CNY (15,000 USD), which she subsequently donated to underprivileged students, generating considerable buzz.

Many people commented on her resemblance to the famous actress Chen Duling. Zhang remained out of the public eye until a few months ago when she created a social media account to share her life as a student at Tsinghua University, one of China's most prestigious universities, located in Beijing.

"Some people said I donated for show. I was very upset", Zhang said in a video interview on 15/6. "Now they may have forgotten who I am. I want to appear before the public with a new image".

Before this year's university entrance exam, a high school student asked Zhang for tips on succeeding in the challenging exam.

"Don't be too worried. Remember that you can't solve every practice question. Set aside time to review each subject and stick to your plan", she advised.

The student, who is studying philosophy and Marxism at Tsinghua University, said she studies 8 hours a day, reads 500 pages a week, and exercises five to six times a week.

"There are many types of well-rounded students. I am one of them, and I also love beauty. I don't think there's a conflict between loving beauty and studying", she said, revealing her aspirations to become a university lecturer or high school teacher.

However, Zhang's father, Zhang Jia Tian, a blogger on family education, said he has forbidden his daughter from livestreaming.

"My daughter's videos attract a lot of views. She has also received advertising offers. Tens of thousands of people usually watch her livestreams", Mr. Zhang said.

"But I don't support her livestreaming because it's not suitable for girls who are too beautiful. As a university student, she can start a business, but she needs proper guidance and can't be blind", he emphasized.

The story of the father and daughter has become a hot topic on Chinese social media, with most supporting Mr. Zhang Jia Tian's decision.

"The father is protecting his daughter. Clearly, the family doesn't need their daughter to earn money from livestreaming", one person commented.

"This girl is perfect in every way", another remarked.
