Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on 2/12/1960. During the resistance war against the US, Cuba was a symbol and leader in the global movement of solidarity with Vietnam's just cause, providing valuable and effective support.
The Vietnam-Cuba trade agreement, signed in November 2018 and effective from 1/4/2020, with tariff preferences, is an important legal basis for businesses from both sides to promote cooperation and increase trade in the future.
Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang said Vietnam is currently Cuba's second-largest trading partner and largest investor from the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam's practical actions in supporting Cuba's food security through various cooperation projects on rice, corn, and seafood production have been recognized and appreciated by the Cuban people and the international community.
The first 2025 harvest of the Vietnam-Cuba rice development cooperation project achieved an impressive yield of 7.2 tons/ha, 4.5 times the local average.
Vietnam recently launched the "65 years of Vietnam-Cuba solidarity" national campaign to raise funds to support the Cuban people in overcoming difficulties and has received great support from the public.
