Cuban president begins state visit to Vietnam

Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez and his wife arrive in Hanoi for a state visit to Vietnam.

First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez and his wife landed at Noi Bai International Airport this morning. They were greeted by Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and Chairman of the Central Theory Council.

The visit, at the invitation of General Secretary To Lam and his wife, takes place from 31/8 to 2/9. Mr. Diaz-Canel Bermudez will attend the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on 2/12/1960. During the resistance war against the US, Cuba was a symbol and leader in the global movement of solidarity and support for Vietnam's just cause, providing invaluable and effective assistance.

The Vietnam-Cuba trade agreement, signed in November 2018 and effective from 1/4/2020, with its preferential tariffs, serves as a crucial legal framework for businesses from both countries to boost cooperation and enhance trade in the coming period.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang stated that Vietnam is currently Cuba's second-largest trading partner and largest investor from the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam's practical actions in supporting Cuba's food security through numerous cooperative projects on rice, corn, and seafood production have been acknowledged and highly appreciated by the Cuban people and the international community.

Vietnam recently launched a nationwide campaign, "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship," to raise funds to support the Cuban people in overcoming their current difficulties, receiving tremendous support from the public.

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang, the Cuban president's visit to Vietnam reaffirms the solidarity between the two nations, continuing to illuminate the path of cooperation and development for the legitimate interests of each country, contributing to shared efforts for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and globally.

"The two countries have journeyed together through historical ups and downs, cultivating an exemplary and rare symbol of pure and faithful international solidarity that transcends geographical boundaries and the test of time. It can be affirmed that the Vietnam-Cuba solidarity is boundless; Cuba's support for Vietnam and Vietnam's support for Cuba is unlimited," said Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang.
