Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on 2/12/1960. During the resistance war against the US, Cuba was a symbol and leader in the global movement of solidarity and support for Vietnam's just cause, providing valuable and effective assistance.
The Vietnam-Cuba trade agreement, signed in 11/2018 and effective from 1/4/2020, offers tariff preferences and serves as a crucial legal framework for businesses from both countries to enhance cooperation and increase trade.
Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang stated that Vietnam is currently Cuba's second-largest trading partner and largest investor from the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam's practical actions in supporting Cuba's food security through various cooperative projects on rice, corn, and seafood production have been recognized and appreciated by the Cuban people and the international community.
The first 2025 harvest of the Vietnam-Cuba rice development cooperation project yielded an impressive 7.2 tons/ha, 4.5 times the local average.
Vietnam recently launched a nationwide campaign, "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship," to raise funds to support the Cuban people in overcoming current difficulties, receiving significant public support.
According to Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang, the Cuban President's visit reaffirms the solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba, continuing to be a beacon lighting the path of cooperation and development for the legitimate interests of each country, contributing to joint efforts for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
"The two countries have journeyed together through the ups and downs of history, cultivating an exemplary and rare symbol of international solidarity, pure and faithful, transcending geographical boundaries and the test of time. It can be affirmed that the Vietnam-Cuba solidarity is limitless; Cuba's support for Vietnam and Vietnam's support for Cuba is limitless," Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang said.
