After more than 12 hours, authorities intercepted the boat west of Cabo Falso in the Caribbean Sea. Three Dominican citizens and one Colombian were arrested, according to Carlos Devers, spokesperson for the Dominican Republic Drug Enforcement Agency.
Onboard the 10-meter vessel were 35 plastic containers holding 1,536 bags of cocaine, totaling 1.5 tons. Authorities also confiscated items such as cell phones and 13 fuel cans.
Devers stated this was one of the largest drug seizures in the country's history.

The Dominican Republic has long been a major drug transit point, with some shipments destined for Europe. The largest seizure in the nation's history occurred in 12/2024, when nearly 9.5 tons of cocaine worth approximately 250 million USD were confiscated. Over 46 tons of drugs were seized by Dominican authorities last year.
