Five dead in New York tour bus crash

A bus carrying more than 50 Asian tourists overturned on a highway in New York state, killing 5 and injuring dozens.

The accident occurred on 22/8 on a highway 40 km east of Buffalo. The bus was returning to New York City after a trip to Niagara Falls.

"The bus lost control for an unknown reason, hit the median, and then plunged into a roadside ditch," New York State Police officer James O’Callaghan said at the scene. The driver, who survived the crash, reported losing control of the vehicle while traveling at high speed.

New York State Police reported that 54 people were on board, most of them from India, China, and the Philippines. The accident resulted in 5 fatalities and numerous injuries.

Many passengers were trapped inside the bus and had to be rescued, while others were ejected from the vehicle. Those injured are not in critical condition, and some passengers have already been discharged from the hospital.

Police closed the highway in both directions, causing significant traffic congestion. The US National Transportation Safety Board dispatched a team to investigate the accident. The driver is cooperating with investigators.

Niagara Falls, the majestic waterfall spanning the US-Canada border, is a popular tourist destination.
