"Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have just reported a horrific murder in Lviv. Mr. Andriy Parubiy has been killed," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X today. Parubiy served as the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament from 2016 to 2019.
Police stated the incident occurred in the Sykhivskyi district of Lviv, and they received the report around noon on 30/8. Parubiy was shot 5 times and died at the scene.
Lviv authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator and determine the motive for the attack.

Parubiy played a prominent role in the 2014 Maidan revolution. He commanded the "Maidan self-defense forces," protecting protesters in central Kyiv from Ukrainian soldiers under then-President Viktor Yanukovych.
After Yanukovych was ousted, Parubiy was appointed Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council under Petro Poroshenko, later becoming vice chairman and then chairman of the Ukrainian parliament.
Since 2019, Parubiy has been a member of the European Solidarity party founded by Poroshenko.
