The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on 4/9, "We detected a missile launched from Yemen toward Israeli territory. Air defense systems are working to intercept the threat".
The IDF later stated that the missile landed in an open area outside Israeli territory, adding that air raid sirens were not activated.

This was the third missile launch by the Houthi armed group in Yemen targeting Israel in less than 24 hours. Tel Aviv claimed to have successfully intercepted the two previous attacks.
Yahya Saree, a Houthi spokesperson, said on 3/9 that the group had launched two missiles towards the Tel Aviv area as part of an "initial response to Israeli aggression".
This attack was in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, on 28/8 that killed 12 senior Houthi political officials. The Houthi forces vowed to avenge their slain leaders and warned foreign companies to "leave Israel before it's too late".
"Our campaign will continue at an increasing pace in the coming period," Saree said.
Responding to the latest Houthi missile launch, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that the armed group would face more "calamities," but did not elaborate.
Since the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted in the Gaza Strip in 10/2023, Houthi forces have repeatedly launched missiles and suicide drones at Israel in solidarity with Hamas.
Most of the Houthi attacks have been intercepted. Israel has also conducted several retaliatory airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen and recently intensified intelligence gathering to eliminate senior Houthi officials.
