Iran executes 'informant' in nuclear scientist case

Iran has executed a man convicted of espionage for providing Israel with information about a nuclear scientist during a 12-day conflict.

"Roozbeh Vadi has been executed following legal proceedings and the Supreme Court's approval of the sentence," Iran's judiciary news agency Mizan Online reported today, adding that the execution was carried out by hanging.

Iranian media stated that Vadi was convicted of disclosing information to Israel about a nuclear scientist who was assassinated during the 12-day conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv in June. It is unclear when Vadi was arrested and sentenced.

Vadi allegedly worked at one of Iran's "important and sensitive organizations" but was recruited online by Israel's Mossad foreign intelligence agency. He was accused of exploiting his access to information to act as an informant and transfer classified data to Mossad.

In June, Israel launched an unprecedented air campaign against Iran, resulting in the deaths of several high-ranking military commanders and more than 10 Iranian nuclear scientists. Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes.

Iran has declared its intention to swiftly prosecute those arrested for alleged collaboration with Israel. Authorities have also announced multiple arrests of individuals suspected of spying for Israel. At least 8 Iranians have been executed for espionage in recent months.
