Iran executes man convicted of spying for Israel

Iranian authorities executed Majid Mosayebi, a man convicted of spying for Israel, on the 10th day of clashes with Israel.

"Majid Mosayebi was hanged this morning after criminal proceedings and the sentence was approved by the Supreme Court," Iran's Mizan news agency reported today, adding that the suspect had provided "sensitive information to the Mossad intelligence agency".

According to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mosayebi was executed early on 22/6 at an undisclosed location. Mosayebi's arrest was not announced prior to his execution. He was accused of "maintaining contact with Israeli intelligence and sending weekly intelligence to an individual codenamed David".

Mosayebi was convicted by the Isfahan Revolutionary Court on charges of "enmity against God and corruption on earth" through collusion with hostile foreign governments, along with espionage.

The execution took place hours after the US bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities and as the conflict between Israel and Iran entered its 10th day. Since Israel's preemptive strike on Iran on 13/6, Tehran has conducted a series of arrests of individuals suspected of providing intelligence to Israel.

The Hengaw organization has noted that Iran often accelerates the executions of prisoners accused of spying for Israel during periods of escalating conflict as a deterrent and act of retaliation.
