"Trump is playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 days or 10 days... He should remember two things. First, Russia is not Israel, much less Iran," Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, wrote on X on 28/7, referring to former US President Donald Trump.
"Second, every new ultimatum is a threat and a step closer to war, not between Russia and Ukraine, but with the US itself. Don't repeat the mistakes of your predecessors," Medvedev continued.

Trump on 14/7 issued Russia a 50-day ultimatum to accept an agreement to end the conflict with Ukraine or face heavy tariffs and sanctions. He stated the 50-day deadline was "not too long" and sufficient to address the conflict.
However, on 28/7, Trump declared Russia had only 10-12 days left to resolve the issue. The former president said there was "no reason to wait" and he hadn't seen any progress in the Russia-Ukraine peace negotiation efforts over the past two weeks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Trump for his "clear stance and demonstrated resolve" in trying to end the war.
Russia and Ukraine held their third round of talks last week in Turkey. However, they have yet to reach any agreement on terms related to a ceasefire, nor the possibility of a direct meeting between the two countries' leaders.
