Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, said on 16/8 that the summit between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump yielded notable results, primarily the restoration of a complete mechanism for high-level meetings between the leaders of the two countries. "This took place peacefully, without ultimatums or threats," he said.
Medvedev stated that the Russian president directly and thoroughly presented Moscow's conditions for ending the Ukraine conflict to the US leader. "After nearly three hours of negotiations, the White House chief avoided increasing pressure on Russia, at least for now," the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council said.

US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held direct talks for over three hours in Alaska on 15/8. The leaders then held a brief press conference to announce the discussion's results and left open the possibility of another summit in the future.
The Alaska summit concluded without any major breakthroughs announced. Trump said the two sides made progress on some key issues, but added that "no agreement has been reached yet".
Observers believe that President Putin achieved a series of symbolic victories from the meeting with his US counterpart.
After the meeting, President Trump hinted at postponing further sanctions or other "serious consequences" against Russia, concluding that the summit with Putin went "very well." Moscow appears to have faced no additional pressure after the meeting, creating an opportunity for the country to maintain its campaign in Ukraine, especially as the Russian military is gaining the upper hand.
In a social media post on 16/8, Trump suggested that the parties should aim for a comprehensive peace agreement to end the Ukraine conflict, rather than pursuing a ceasefire.
This is seen as a major shift in the US president's stance after the summit with his Russian counterpart. One of Trump's central demands over the past months has been to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine. This is also a long-standing goal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and many European leaders.
