Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported today that Russia launched 8 missiles and over 30 UAVs in an attack against Ukraine. He did not specify the types of missiles or drones used.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service confirmed that one of the targets hit was an institution of higher education in Kyiv but did not disclose its name. “The enemy attacked Kyiv with various types of weapons. The Sviatoshynsky and Solomyansky districts suffered the most damage,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko added.
Security camera footage and videos from Kyiv residents captured explosions believed to be from Russian missiles. Ukrainian media also published videos showing the sounds of Russian UAV engines approaching their targets.
Kyiv military administration head Tymur Tkachenko reported at least 6 fatalities and dozens of injuries. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko later reported that the blast wave shattered windows in the pediatric ward of a hospital in the Shevchenkivsky district.
AMK Mapping, an open-source intelligence account on X, reported that 13 Iskander-K long-range cruise missiles struck Kyiv. "This is the largest Iskander-K missile attack since the beginning of the conflict," the account noted.
According to Russian military-affiliated news sites, two of the targets were Zhuliany International Airport, where the Ukrainian military has deployed Patriot air defense missile systems to protect Kyiv, and the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
The Ukrainian Air Force Command has not yet released any official statistics on the attack, and the Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented.

Russia has recently increased its large-scale combined missile and drone attacks against Ukraine, as Kyiv faces a severe shortage of air defense missiles, especially ammunition for the Patriot systems. Last week, Russia and Ukraine held their third round of direct talks in Turkey, but failed to reach any agreements on a ceasefire or a potential meeting between their leaders.
On 28/7, US President Donald Trump declared that Russia has 10-12 days left to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, two weeks after issuing an ultimatum that Moscow must reach an agreement to end the war within 50 days or face severe sanctions.
