Myanmar president to visit Vietnam

Myanmar president Min Aung Hlaing to visit Vietnam this week, marking his first trip since taking office.

Myanmar president Min Aung Hlaing and his wife will make an official visit to Vietnam from 4-6/9 at the invitation of General Secretary, President To Lam and his wife, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Born in 1956, Min Aung Hlaing has served as president since april. He previously held positions including Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Committee.

Vietnam and Myanmar established diplomatic relations on 28/5/1975. In 8/2017, the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership.

During a meeting with Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on 26/8 in Nay Pyi Taw, President Min Aung Hlaing noted that political cooperation remains strong, but economic cooperation between the two nations has significantly declined compared to pre-Covid-19 levels.

Bilateral trade turnover decreased from 853 million USD in 2020 to 590 million USD in 2025, reaching 335 million USD in the first half of this year. As of 30/6, Vietnam has 107 active investment projects in Myanmar, with a total registered capital of 1.4 billion USD.

President Min Aung Hlaing affirmed his commitment to creating more favorable conditions and policies for businesses to confidently invest and operate successfully in Myanmar. Key areas for investment include telecommunications, education - training, agriculture, food processing, logistics, digital transformation, and science and technology.
